There are no plans to expand the paid parking area in St. Petersburg this year. This was stated in an interview with TASS by the vice-governor of the city Kirill Polyakov.

The Vice-governor said that now the priorities of St. Petersburg in the field of parking are the development of urban and intercept parking lots, including multi-level ones. This is necessary to regulate traffic flows and create conditions for drivers to transfer to public transport, which reduces traffic jams during rush hours, Polyakov said.

Currently, the paid parking area in St. Petersburg includes the Central, Admiralteysky, Petrogradsky, Vasileostrovsky districts and Krestovsky Island. It is valid from 08:00 to 20:00 daily. There are 18 intercept parking lots for 1,795 parking spaces and 14 urban parking lots for 2,061 parking spaces in the city.

New tariffs for paid parking in St. Petersburg began operating on October 15 last year. The cost now depends not only on the category of transport, but also on the degree of congestion in the parking lot. The central districts of the city were divided into four tariff zones. Later, in November, the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg proposed to increase the parking payment time from 15 minutes to 24 hours. A bill on the introduction of differentiated fines was also considered.
