The weather forecaster warned of frosts in Moscow at the end of the week
This week, Moscow residents will have changeable weather — snowfalls at the beginning of the period will be replaced by a significant cooling by its end. This was reported to Izvestia on January 19 by Tatyana Pozdnyakova, a leading specialist at the Meteonosti news agency.
According to her, the Atlantic cyclone will determine the weather for most of the working week, which will push the previously dominant anticyclone south. This will lead to light snow and warmer air.
"On Monday and Tuesday, the maximum temperature in the capital is expected to be around -6 degrees, and at night the thermometer will drop to -6...-8 degrees. During the day, the temperature will be -4...-6 degrees, which corresponds to the climatic norm or even slightly higher than it," the specialist noted.
The weather pattern will not change on Wednesday: -6...-8 degrees at night, -5...-7 degrees in the afternoon, while maintaining the north-westerly wind.
Significant changes will begin on Thursday, February 22. The strengthening of the anticyclone and the northeast wind will bring a portion of Arctic air. Advection of cold throughout the day will lead to the fact that the temperature in Moscow will practically not have a daily course, steadily remaining around -10 degrees, and in the region — up to -13.
No significant precipitation is expected on Friday and Saturday, but frosts will intensify. The minimum temperature in Moscow will be -15...-20 degrees, and during the day it will be -13...-18, which is 7-8 degrees below the climatic norm.
"On Sunday, February 25, the day will also be frosty, and the temperature may drop to -25 degrees in places in the region. There is nothing unusual in such frosts, as similar temperatures have already been observed in the Moscow region this January," the forecaster warned.
On January 15, Pozdnyakova reported that monthly precipitation had fallen in the capital and its region in the first two weeks of January. The expert clarified that 48.5 mm fell at the VDNKh weather station at a rate of 52 mm, and 60 mm at the Moscow State University weather station at a rate of 54 mm. Thus, the height of the snow cover in Moscow as of the morning of January 15 is 41 cm, with a norm of 18 cm.
