Europe, in its reaction to the recent political events related to the US military operation in Venezuela and the desire of the head of the White House, Donald Trump, to get Greenland, shows strategic "spinelessness" in the face of Washington with its double standards. This was reported on January 19 by the Chinese newspaper Global Times.

The authors of the article called the emerging picture "surreal" in which the EU countries consider China, which invests in the development of their infrastructure, to be their rival, and Washington, which imposes tariff agreements on them, to be an ally.

"This is not just an abuse of double standards, but also an exposure of Europe's strategic spinelessness in the face of hegemonic coercion," the publication says.

It also emphasizes that the countries of the alliance, which "openly contradict the laws of logic" and are under pressure from the United States, resort to political manipulation to disrupt potentially good bilateral economic and trade relations with China. Their behavior, as noted in the text, not only violates the legitimate rights of enterprises based in China, but also seriously undermines Europe's own legal system.

A day earlier, Konstantin Kosachev, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council (SF), pointed to the severe depression developing among EU politicians, which, in his opinion, arises from confusion and disorientation. He recalled a recent statement by the head of EU diplomacy, Kai Kallas, that the dispute over Greenland was distracting Europe and the United States from helping Ukraine.

On the same day, Kallas called on European diplomats to resolve the problems around Greenland, which Moscow and Beijing, as she believes, "are thoroughly enjoying." At the same time, she said that the 10% tariffs imposed by Trump against a number of European countries risked undermining the prosperity of both the EU and the United States.
