Traditional bathing, performed on the annual Orthodox feast of Epiphany, took place on the territory of the Republic of Dagestan, where the entire Caspian Sea was consecrated specifically for this purpose. On January 19, Izvestia published footage of the folk tradition.

"While believers are plunging into ice holes all over the country, Dagestan today is the only place in Russia where the whole sea has been illuminated for Epiphany bathing. Behind me is the Caspian Sea. The water is icy, and there are more and more people who want to take a dip here," said Daniyal Isaev, a correspondent for Izvestia.

Vasily Kanygin, one of the participants of the bathing, who lives in Makhachkala, clarified that the weather in the area where the baptismal font was organized turned out to be successful and snowy. A man who dips into Epiphany every year said that going out into the frosty air from the water, a person almost always wants to come back due to the fact that the temperature in reservoirs is "plus". The Izvestia interlocutor added that next year he would be happy to plunge into the sea again for this holiday.

On January 13, Lyudmila Lapa, an allergist, immunologist, and therapist, listed the rules for proper Epiphany bathing. So, according to her recommendation, people who came out of the water should dry off, quickly warm up in a warm room or car, and also drink hot tea. She reminded that the process itself should be carried out only in equipped ice holes with rescuers and medics on duty, warm changing rooms and heating points.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
