- The media reported on the US attempt to learn about Greenland's military infrastructure
The US government tried to obtain information about the military infrastructure in Greenland, bypassing standard communication channels with the Danish Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the military leadership. This was reported on January 18 by the Berlingske newspaper, citing previously unpublished documents from the Danish Defense Ministry and the armed forces.
"In 2025, the United States attempted <...> to collect information about infrastructure, including critical military infrastructure in Greenland," the publication says.
It is clarified that due to the current situation around the island, the Danish government and the Ministry of Defense were notified of Washington's actions. According to the publication, the information sought could have been used in planning an attack or invasion by the United States.
European Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius said on January 12 that the US military operation to capture Greenland, if launched, would mean the end for the North Atlantic Alliance.
A representative of the Bundeswehr operational command said on January 18 that the German military command did not disclose the details of the German military mission in Greenland that ended on Sunday. The ministry briefly clarified that the German military completed the mission in Greenland according to the plan, having received important information.
