- FT learned about the hopes of Kiev's allies to coordinate security guarantees with Trump
Representatives of the Italian, German, French, Canadian and British sides, together with President of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen, hope to coordinate security guarantees for Ukraine with US President Donald Trump at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland. This was reported on Saturday, January 17, by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper, citing sources.
"The leaders in Davos will demand Trump's approval of agreements that are considered critical to a cease—fire," the article says.
It is emphasized that a potential meeting on this issue, to which other Western leaders may be invited, may take place next Wednesday, January 21.
Ukraine's Ambassador to the United States, Olga Stefanyshina, said a day earlier that her country continues to actively consult with Washington, where issues of a "future security architecture" are being discussed. She announced a new round of negotiations with the American side, which was scheduled for January 17th. On the designated day, it became known that a Ukrainian delegation consisting of Kirill Budanov, head of the office of the Ukrainian leader (listed in the Russian Federation as a terrorist and extremist), Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC), and David Arahamia, head of the Servant of the People parliamentary faction, arrived in the United States for talks.
