On January 18, Armando Mema, a member of the Finnish Freedom Alliance party, expressed gratitude to Russian President Vladimir Putin, who remains open to dialogue with Europe, despite the anti-Russian rhetoric of its politicians.

He stressed that Russia values peace and good relations with Europe, despite the fact that the recent policies of the continent's countries have been directed against Moscow.

"We should be grateful for President Putin's statements about restoring dialogue with us, but there is still a lot of work to be done at the level of the EU countries to change course," Mema wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

According to Mema, Europe's intentions cannot yet be viewed optimistically, and tensions remain "extremely high." However, the EU must fundamentally change its dangerous trajectory.

On January 16, British Foreign Minister Yvette Cooper rejected a proposal from France and Italy to restore direct contact with the Russian leader as part of efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. Alexey Chepa, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Relations, noted that the United Kingdom is the most active party in terms of escalating tensions.

On January 15, Putin expressed hope for the restoration of relations with European countries based on mutual respect for national interests. He noted that Russia is ready for open mutually beneficial cooperation, and there are many examples of good cooperation in history. At the same time, the current state of Russia's relations with Italy, France, Austria and a number of other European countries leaves much to be desired.
