The British defense sector is in its most depressed state in two decades, despite government promises to increase funding. This was reported on January 18 by the Daily Mail newspaper.

"The internal situation for small British defense companies is the worst I've seen in the last 20 years, even large companies are deeply disappointed," a British defense official said on condition of anonymity.

Defense companies are concerned about the lack of orders within the country amid reports of a gap in the government's budget in the amount of £28 billion ($37.5 billion), the material added.

The author of the article notes that defense companies are afraid of cutting costs to a minimum and curtailing key programs, as British Prime Minister Keir Starmer gives priority to financing social rather than defense projects.

The Times newspaper reported on January 9 that the UK's defense budget deficit will amount to £28 billion ($37.6 billion) over the next four years. According to the publication, the country's chief of the defense staff, Richard Knighton, presented the calculations to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, causing him dissatisfaction.
