Fico stated about the deep crisis of the EU countries

The European Union (EU) is in deep crisis. This was announced on January 18 by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico following his visit to the United States for closed-door talks with US President Donald Trump.

According to Fico, he discussed with Trump the competitiveness of the EU, its energy and migration policies. Both leaders came to the conclusion that the union is in a crisis situation.

"We did not avoid assessing the EU, its competitiveness, energy and migration policies, while there was full agreement that the union was in deep crisis," the Slovak Prime minister said.

According to Fico, a few months ago, some EU member states forbade him to fly over their territories when he was heading to Russia to celebrate Victory Day in Moscow. However, now "thousands of people are talking about the need to have a dialogue with Moscow" and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to the Slovak Prime Minister, during a lengthy discussion with the American side, special attention was paid to Ukraine. He stressed that the US representatives showed interest in Slovakia's position, since Bratislava consistently defends its own, sovereign point of view on the conflict, without changing it from meeting to meeting.

"We are not Brussels parrots and have long expressed our own, sovereign opinion about the conflict in Ukraine. In the context of other important international events, I have clearly stated Slovakia's peaceful position and that diplomacy and mutual attention should take precedence over military solutions," the politician concluded.

Earlier in the day, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev said that EU politicians are developing severe depression, which manifests itself in their confusion and disorientation. The senator commented on a recent statement by the head of EU diplomacy, Kai Kallas, that the dispute over Greenland is distracting Europe and the United States from helping Ukraine. According to Kosachev, such rhetoric confirms the separation of the EU from reality and the inability to recognize the fallacy of previous strategies, which leads to "the final separation of the EU from reality with unpredictable consequences."
