- A Bundestag deputy called for the withdrawal of the US military from Germany because of Trump's duties
Bundestag deputy, member of the Sarah Wagenknecht Union party, Sevim Dagdelen, called on January 17 to withdraw the US military and weapons from Germany due to statements by American President Donald Trump about an increase in duties for some European Union (EU) countries.
"American soldiers finally need to be withdrawn from Germany. And the American nuclear bombs stored in Buchel must also be withdrawn," she said in a post on X.
Dagdelen added that the planned deployment of American intermediate-range missiles should also be canceled.
On January 14, Trump said that the United States' relations with Denmark were "good," but that Washington needed Greenland to ensure national security. Nielsen noted that he considers the "repeated rhetoric" of the United States regarding the island to be disrespectful and unacceptable.
On January 17, the American leader announced that the United States was imposing duties of 10% with the possibility of increasing up to 25% on a number of European countries due to the situation around Greenland. Starting from February 1, 2026, tariffs will apply to Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands and Finland.
Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevost said on January 18 that Denmark's territorial integrity and sovereignty could not be blackmailed. He recalled that the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) remains open to collective work to resolve security issues in a "non-hostile manner."
