The Liberal Democratic Party proposed to introduce salary allowances for teachers of regional universities

The LDPR faction in the State Duma, led by Leonid Slutsky, has put forward a legislative initiative that provides for the establishment of mandatory salary allowances of at least 40% for teachers of higher education institutions with at least 10 years of experience in the relevant region. The document is scheduled to be submitted to the State Duma on January 18.

"We propose to introduce stable salary allowances for teachers of regional universities who have worked in the same region for at least 10 years, at least 40 percent of the salary, with further increases as the length of service increases. Such a measure will help retain staff in the regions, strengthen scientific and pedagogical schools and restore respect for the teaching profession, without which the country's development is impossible," Slutsky told TASS.

It is specified that the procedure for calculating payments will be approved by the Russian government. It is also assumed that the amount of the allowance will increase as the teaching experience in a particular region increases. It is planned to assign control over the implementation of payments to regional authorities jointly with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

Slutsky noted that the shortage of teachers in Russia has increased in recent years, especially in the regions. According to him, young scientists are leaving for megacities, which leads to a weakening of scientific schools and a decrease in the quality of specialist training.

Due to the demographic pit of the 90s, there will be much fewer students in elementary schools in the coming years.

Vladislav Grib, Deputy Secretary of the Public Chamber of Russia, announced on September 12 that teachers who have worked in schools for more than 25 years should be given the right to receive free housing. In addition, he added that it is necessary to establish annual payments to teachers, which they will receive by Teacher's Day.
