Japanese MP from the ruling Liberal Democratic Party Muneo Suzuki conveyed a message from Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was reported on Saturday, January 17, by Toyo Keizai magazine.

"At the very moment when, as they say, Japanese-Russian relations are at their worst, someone should come and put things in order," Suzuki said at a press conference.

The letter, in which Japan expresses the importance of relations with Russia and wishes an end to the conflict in Ukraine, was transmitted through Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev during Suzuki's visit to Moscow from December 25 to 27, 2025.

During the trip, the Japanese parliamentarian also held meetings with Russian Deputy Foreign Ministers Andrei Rudenko and Mikhail Galuzin.

Earlier, on October 24, 2025, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, in her keynote speech in parliament on the occasion of taking office, stated that the Japanese government was determined to conclude a peace treaty with Russia, despite the difficult situation in bilateral relations.
