On January 17, Karelia hosted the photo exhibition "Russian Light: A Journey through Space and Time" by traveler and photographer Vadim Alekseev.

The exhibition features works from his personal archive, collected over more than 30 years of expeditions around Russia and the world. During this time, the author has traveled more than 250 routes and participated in international expeditions to Siberia, Chukotka, Greenland and South America. His reports have been published in the magazines "Around the World", National Geographic and "Russian Reporter".

The exhibition is based on photographs taken in remote parts of the country: from the village of Rybachy in the west to the Commander Islands in the east.

"I just showed how big the diverse world of our country is <...> Let people watch, let them think, feel, want to see for themselves," the author shared at the opening of the exhibition.

Alekseev said that the unique shots of snow leopards were taken during an expedition to the Tien Shan. According to him, filming these rare animals in their natural environment was extremely difficult due to their stealth. The group spent 15 days at the location almost to no avail and was about to leave when on the last day they managed to capture a male with a female.

Part of the filming also took place at a biological station where animals are rehabilitated. These photos are exclusive material that has never been published before. The exhibition will run until January 30th.

Earlier, on January 14, an exhibition dedicated to the reign of Emperor Alexander III opened. The exhibition is the first part of a large—scale historical project. It is devoted to the main directions of domestic and foreign policy, government reforms and achievements. The exhibits were provided by more than 20 museums of the country and private collectors. There are personal letters, diaries, and belongings of Alexander III, as well as weapons, paintings, and ship models.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
