The US Department of Justice has launched an investigation into the leaders of the state of Minnesota, including Governor Tim Waltz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, on charges of conspiring to obstruct the activities of the Federal Immigration Service (ICE). This was reported on January 16 by the CBS television channel, citing sources.

"The Department of Justice is investigating officials from the state of Minnesota, including Governor Tim Waltz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, on charges of conspiring to obstruct the actions of federal immigration agents," the publication says.

According to the publication, Waltz declined to comment, and Frey said that this was an attempt to intimidate him for protecting Minneapolis, local law enforcement agencies and residents from "chaos and danger."

On January 7, CBS reported that a U.S. immigration officer shot and killed a woman in Minneapolis, Minnesota, during an operation against protesters. The shooting is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
