Drones have helped Russian geologists identify seven deposits
Seven potential mineral deposits in the Far East and Siberia have been identified using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This was announced on January 16 by the Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation Alexander Kozlov.
"The Russian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has 1,626 drones in its arsenal. <...> The devices help <...> monitor dangerous geological processes, search for new deposits and record the occupancy of landfills," he said in a press release on the website of the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
The Minister noted that due to effective civilian flights of UAVs, reserves of a number of strategic and scarce resources are expected to increase: 83 thousand tons of uranium, 2 million tons of manganese, 7 million tons of chromium and 3.5 million tons of titanium.
Kozlov said on January 10 that Russia's Arctic ecosystems are very fragile and require special protection. Specially protected areas are being created in the region to preserve nature, covering about 13% of the Arctic area, which is 40 million hectares.
