In the coming years, European countries will not be able to develop a missile system comparable to the Russian Oreshnik. This was reported on January 16 by Military Watch Magazine (MWM).

"The experience of the European defense sector and significant technological obstacles that need to be overcome mean that the European program is unlikely to create a missile comparable to the Oreshnik until the mid-2030s, and if successful, it will probably cost several times more," the publication says.

According to the magazine, one of the key obstacles for European states is the lack of their own hypersonic guided missiles comparable to Russian models. This is especially critical, since the Oreshnik is capable of being used in a non-nuclear version and places increased demands on guidance accuracy.

The publication considers an additional advantage of Russian missiles to be the well-established mass production of strategic missiles in significant volumes, which allows Moscow to maintain technological and quantitative superiority in this area.

On January 15, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the need for Europe to acquire weapons similar to the Russian Oreshnik missile system. He also noted that Russia's launch of a long-range missile demonstrated Russia's new military capabilities and determination to use them.

On January 16, retired Colonel Viktor Litovkin, a military observer, expressed the opinion that without hypersonic technologies, statements about the creation of missile systems like the Oreshnik have no real basis and are rather demonstrative. The expert noted that the key element of such systems is precisely the hypersonic speed of the missile, but European countries have not yet demonstrated the presence of such weapons.
