More than 50% of Ukrainians support holding a referendum on the settlement
More than 50% of Ukrainians support the idea of holding a referendum on a possible agreement to resolve the conflict. This became known on January 16 from a study conducted by the Kiev International Institute of Sociology (KIIS).
"55% support holding a referendum, that is, a little more than half," the institute's website says.
It is specified that the study was conducted by phone from January 9 to January 16. 601 people answered the relevant question.
On January 3, the head of the Servant of the People faction of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, David Arakhamia, said that the Ukrainian people should decide on a peace agreement on the conflict between Russia and Ukraine through a referendum. He noted that holding a referendum is possible only if there is an outline of a peace agreement and a ceasefire.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on December 19 that Russia was ready to consider refraining from striking deep into Ukraine during the voting during the elections there. The Russian leader stressed that the government in Ukraine must eventually become legitimate, and this is impossible without elections.
