The use of weapons by the police during the arrest of a Porsche in Balashikha is legitimate if the violator posed a threat to others. Lev Voropaev, an auto lawyer, told Izvestia about this on January 16.

According to him, the use of weapons is permissible if the violator refuses to follow the instructions of a police officer and at the same time poses a threat to others. He also said that in such cases, a mandatory investigation is conducted, which assesses the legality of the actions of government agencies and the guilt of the violator.

"In the United States, police officers have such an opportunity — they can, in case of a threat to an employee, shoot to kill, which, of course, is unacceptable in our realities," Voropayev said.

According to auto expert Dmitry Popov, a police officer in Russia needs to take many preventive actions before proceeding to a full-fledged suppression of a crime.

"Before showing any rigidity towards the offender, a police officer has to perform a lot of actions. To warn, shoot in the air, shout, turn on the siren, and so on, and so on, and so on," Popov said.

He noted that if the police were hypothetically able to respond more harshly to crimes, violators would also behave more carefully.

Earlier in the day, the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Irina Volk, reported that in the city of Balashikha, Moscow region, police used weapons to stop illegal actions by the driver of a Porsche car. The driver of the foreign car did not stop at the request of the inspectors, but only increased his speed. He also collided twice with official vehicles that tried to block the violator's movement.
