The Russian Defense Ministry pointed to the failure of attempts by the Ukrainian Armed Forces to attack Kupyansk

The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have not abandoned their plan for Kupyansk, but their offensive operations in the period from November to December last year were unsuccessful. This was announced on January 16 by the commander of the Zapad group of forces, Colonel General Sergey Kuzovlev, during a meeting with Defense Minister Andrei Belousov.

"The areas are under our control, but we estimate that the enemy has not abandoned his plan. His, say, offensive operation, which he conducted in December-November, in the month of December, did not bring success," he is quoted as saying in the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
