The SCO opposed interference in Iran's internal affairs
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has spoken out against interference in Iran's internal affairs following the events in the country. This was announced on January 16 by the press service of the organization.
"The SCO opposes interference in the internal affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran," the website says.
The SCO clarified that it adheres to the principles of respect for sovereignty, as well as the independence and territorial integrity of states without threat from other countries. The organization also called for a solution to the situation in Iran through political and diplomatic measures.
It is noted that the sanctions against Iran have also had a negative impact on the economy and socio-economic development of the country.
Earlier in the day, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian informed Russian Leader Vladimir Putin during a telephone conversation about the active efforts being made by the Iranian leadership to normalize the situation in the country. Moscow and Tehran also confirmed their mutual commitment to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and implement joint projects.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also said that Putin is making efforts to de-escalate the situation in the Middle East, paying great attention to the situation around Iran.
