- The consequences of the fifth cyclone are being eliminated in the Nikolaevsky district of the Khabarovsk Territory
In the Nikolaevsky district of the Khabarovsk Territory, the consequences of the fifth cyclone since the beginning of winter are being eliminated. The emergency regime continues to operate in the area, according to the head of the municipality Anatoly Leonov in his Telegram channel.
"In December and January, Nikolaevsk–on-Amur and its surroundings have already been hit by five cyclones, three of which were accompanied by snowstorms. That is why an emergency regime has been in effect in the district since December. Another cyclone hit on the 15th," Leonov quotes from a video message from IA AmurMedia.
On January 16, the entire day was spent clearing the runway at the airport, where the thickness of the snow cover exceeded half a meter in the morning, and snow dunes with a height of 2 m or more grew on the airfield. The ice crossing over the Amur River, the territory of the ATP and the oil depot, roads and public transport stops were also cleared. Accordingly, the airport and ferry were closed, bus traffic was suspended, and the students were sent away. They promised to open the ferry by evening.
Work will continue over the weekend, as the last cyclone, which struck on January 15, significantly increased the amount of snow in the municipality. Snowfall resumes periodically, which complicates the clearing of territories. The snow is not light and fluffy, as during the previous snowfall, but loose and heavy.
The head of the district also noted that winters in this part of the Khabarovsk Territory are traditionally considered one of the snowiest in the region, but the 2025/26 season was able to surprise.
