The analyst spoke about the changes in the Chinese economy before the New Year
In China, it is customary to celebrate the Chinese New Year in red new clothes, Maria Suvorova, a lecturer at the Institute of Business and Business Administration at the Presidential Academy, told Izvestia. According to her, because of this tradition, sales of red clothes are sharply increasing in the country before the holidays.
"This tradition symbolizes renewal and the beginning of a new life cycle. The red color is considered especially favorable: according to beliefs, it scares away evil spirits and attracts good luck. In modern China, this tradition is directly reflected in consumer behavior. During the New Year period, sales of red clothing and accessories are growing sharply, especially underwear and socks, which are perceived as a personal "charm" for the whole year," Suvorova explained.
In addition, according to her, due to the tradition of cleaning before the New Year in Shanghai, prices for cleaning services increase three to four times from December to January - everyone strives to celebrate the holiday in a perfectly clean house.
Chinese New Year also triggers the Chunyun phenomenon (spring transportation), the largest annual migration on the planet. Over 3 billion trips are made within about 40 days. In 2024, a record was recorded — about 9 billion trips, which is three times the population of China. The reason for this is the tradition of celebrating the New Year with the whole family.
