Europe has stymied itself with threats against Russia, constantly saying "no" to negotiations on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. This opinion was shared by The American Conservative (AC) magazine on January 16.

"During the last round of negotiations in Paris, a statement and a number of promises were made containing at least three points that Europe will find difficult to agree to unless the United States forces it to do so," the article says.

It is noted that the first point is related to the financing of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). According to the publication, it will be extremely difficult for European countries that have already spent $350 billion on financing to fulfill this promise.

The second point is to grant Ukraine membership in the European Union with an exact date as compensation for the inability to join NATO, and the third is the commitment of European troops to maintain peace in Ukraine.

According to the newspaper, some European countries doubt the possibility of deploying troops in Ukraine without US military support.

The Politico newspaper reported on January 15 that there are concerns in Europe that its role in the issue of the Ukrainian settlement may be reduced. Nevertheless, the UK continues to insist that it is Kiev and the European states that must determine the conditions for ending the conflict.

Following the summit of the Coalition of the Willing in Paris on January 6, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that Ukraine and its Western allies would have to compromise for a peaceful settlement of the crisis. During his speech, the Chancellor did not say what kind of concessions he had in mind.
