Since January 1, 2026, the Russian Federation has been chairing the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). The Chairmanship is held under the motto "Collective security in a multipolar world: common goal, common responsibility." In the year of the Russian presidency, Russia will host the International Forum for Collective Security, a new platform for dialogue on a wide range of pressing issues of international and regional security. The Forum was established by the decision of the CSTO Collective Security Council and will be held for the first time. The organizer is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the operator is the Roscongress Foundation.

As part of its CSTO chairmanship, Russia will continue to strengthen the association's defense potential and proposes launching a program to equip the Organization's collective forces with modern Russian weapons. "One of the key priorities of the Russian presidency is the development of cooperation between our states to ensure the technological leadership of the CSTO in the military sphere," Russian President Vladimir Putin said in his speech during the regular session of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, held in Bishkek in November 2025. In addition, Russia will strengthen the fight against drug trafficking, work on a new anti-terrorist strategy and help use the achievements of military medicine. The Head of State proposed to take measures to protect against threats in the information sphere and improve the mechanism for involving peacekeepers.

"During 2026, a number of events are planned aimed at building allied ties within the CSTO, comprehensively strengthening the Organization's collective security system, including expert meetings and scientific and practical conferences. The action plan is based on the priorities of the Russian CSTO presidency in 2026 and covers all key areas of activity," said Anton Kobyakov, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation.
