Forecasters predicted frosts of up to -17 degrees over the weekend in Moscow
On the weekend of January 17 and 18, Muscovites expect a cold snap. Possible clarifications on Saturday, and Sunday will be cloudy. Yandex Weather analysts told Izvestia about this on January 16.
Frosty weather is expected on Saturday, January 17, with clarifications by noon. In the morning, the temperature will be -15 degrees, in the afternoon it will rise slightly to -13 degrees, in the evening it will drop to -16 degrees and even to -17 degrees by night. The day will be windless.
"In the cities of the Moscow region — such as Odintsovo, Podolsk, Lyubertsy, Vidnoye and Domodedovo — the daytime temperature will be close to Moscow, about -13...-15 degrees. However, in some localities, such as Podolsk, Vidnoye and Domodedovo, lower temperature values are possible in the evening — up to -20 degrees," the forecasters said.
On Sunday, January 18, the weather will also be frosty, but cloudy all day. In the morning, the temperature will be -15 degrees, in the afternoon it will rise to -12 degrees, and in the evening and at night it will stop at -11 degrees. The westerly wind will not exceed 2 m/s.
In the Moscow region, the temperature background is expected to be at the Moscow level, in some places 1-2 degrees lower, and weather conditions will be similar to those in the capital.
Tatiana Pozdnyakova, a leading specialist at the Meteonosti news agency, told Izvestia on January 15 that an unusual optical phenomenon, the "false sun", can be observed in the sky during the winter months. This effect, as explained by the expert, occurs when several circumstances occur at once, which include reduced air humidity parameters (for a "false sun" to occur, it must be dry) and the crystallization of water vapor, which usually occurs at high altitude.
