Plushenko noted the degradation of women's figure skating in Europe without Russians
Two-time Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko announced on January 15 that women's figure skating at the 2026 European Championships would degrade without Russian representatives.
"Without our people, everything in Europe is deteriorating. It was painful for me to watch," Plushenko wrote on his Telegram channel.
He also expressed disappointment with the level of competition and compared what was happening to a lethargic sleep since 1985.
Earlier, on December 22 last year, it was reported that three-time Olympic figure skating champion and State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina appreciated the performances of the winners of the Russian Figure Skating Championships, Adelia Petrosyan and Peter Gumennik. Rodnina explained that Gumennik and Petrosyan had to reach their peak form back in September in order to compete at the Olympic qualification tournament.
