The Zapad group of troops is completing an operation to liberate the Kupyansk-Uzlovoy settlement in the Kharkiv region. This was announced on January 15 by Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia.

"Street battles are underway and the liberation of Kupyansk-Uzlovoye is coming to an end," he said during an inspection of the progress of combat missions by formations and military units of the Center group of forces.

According to Gerasimov, after Kupyansk was liberated in November last year, Ukrainian militants made several attempts to demonstrate their alleged presence in the city, but all these attempts were thwarted. At the same time, the troops of the Zapad group are actively developing an offensive in the Krasnolimansk direction.

In addition, on the eastern bank of the Oskol River, the Russian military continues to eliminate formations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the Kupyansk direction. Also, after the liberation of Seversk, the Southern Group of troops is actively moving westward in the general direction of Slavyansk.

Earlier in the day, Gerasimov said that the Russian army was advancing in almost all directions in the area of its military operations. At the same time, the Russian military liberated eight settlements in two weeks of January. Also, over 300 square kilometers have passed under the control of the Russian army.
