79 people died in fires in the Pskov region in 2025.

In 2025, 79 people died as a result of fires in the Pskov Region. This was announced by the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations on Wednesday, January 14.

In total, 2,850 fires with damage of 27.53 million rubles were recorded in the region last year. As a result, 79 people were killed and 23 others were injured. There are no children among the dead.

At the same time, 823 fires occurred in cities and regional centers, killing 29 people, including 11 people in a state of intoxication. There are 2,027 fires in rural areas. 50 people were killed, including nine in a state of intoxication.

According to the Pskov news feed, the cause of 2,245 fires was careless handling of fire. In another 322 cases, the fire started due to violations of the rules for the installation and operation of electrical equipment, in 135 - the device and operation of the furnace, in nine — the device and operation of gas equipment.

On January 12, experts from the ROCKWOOL company, as well as the public movement "NO Fires!" told Izvestia that the winter period is traditionally accompanied by a sharp increase in the number of fires in the residential sector. According to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, more than 6,700 fires were eliminated during the January 2025 holiday weekend, which is almost twice the weekly average of other months.
