Oncologist Evgeny Cheremushkin admitted that stomach cancer in actor and rector of the Moscow Art Theater School Igor Zolotovitsky could have been asymptomatic for a long time. In conversation with aif.ru On Wednesday, January 14, the specialist explained that a tumor is a volumetric process in which cells divide and grow either towards a spherical shape or towards the side of least resistance — for example, along the walls of an organ.

According to him, benign formations can increase very slowly and exist for years, often almost without disturbing a person. Thus, a nodular tumor of the stomach remains unnoticeable for a long time, as the organ gradually adapts, and the symptoms are limited to only mild discomfort; in such cases, the neoplasm is often detected accidentally on ultrasound, X-ray or MRI, and the prognosis is usually favorable.

Speaking about malignant tumors, the specialist noted that they may not give pronounced symptoms for a long time. With the infiltrative type of growth, a gradual lesion of the stomach wall occurs, which is why a person can only feel signs similar to gastritis or disorders of the biliary system. However, by the time you apply for an examination, metastases are often already detected — in the liver, lymph nodes, or peritoneum.
