- Lavrov said there was a negative global assessment of the illegal US operation in Venezuela.
The US operation in Venezuela is illegal, and this assessment is shared by the vast majority of the world's states. This was announced on January 14 by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov following talks with Namibian Minister of International Relations and Trade Selma Ashipala-Musavyi.
Russia's position remains unchanged and is of a principled nature. Moscow relies on the principles of respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states, whose governments represent the interests of the entire population, Lavrov noted. And Venezuela was just such a state.
"Therefore, our principled assessments of the illegal operation carried out by the United States remain in force. [Such assessments] are shared by the vast majority of the world's majority states, the countries of the global South, and the global East," he stressed.
The US operation in Venezuela suggests that Washington is pursuing a policy of breaking the system of international relations, while Venezuela is ready to negotiate with the United States in the absence of dictate from Washington, as already mentioned by authorized President Delcy Rodriguez, the minister added.
"It is clear to everyone that this is a gross violation of international law. In general, this is (the US operation in Venezuela. — ed.) and other actions that we are witnessing in the international arena indicate not even an attempt, but the line of our American colleagues to break the entire system that has been created for many years with their direct participation," Lavrov said.
Russia retains all the agreements reached earlier between Moscow and Caracas, the Russian Foreign Minister added.
On January 13, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry reported on Lavrov's conversation with his Belarusian counterpart Maxim Ryzhenkov about the situation in Venezuela and Iran. The Ministers noted the inadmissibility of foreign interference in the internal affairs of other States.
American journalist Tucker Carlson said on January 12 that after the US operation in Venezuela, Washington has no right to blame Russia for its actions in Ukraine. He pointed out that the real goal of the United States was to cut off oil supplies to China. According to this logic, Moscow, feeling threatened at its borders, defends itself exactly the same way as Washington, he stressed.
