More than 2,4 thousand refugees from Somalia to the United States will be forced to leave the country by the decision of American President Donald Trump. This was announced on January 14 by the US Secretary of Homeland Security, Christie Noem.
"Conditions in Somalia have improved to such an extent that the country no longer meets the requirements of the law on granting temporary protective status. In addition, allowing Somali citizens to temporarily stay in the United States is contrary to our national interests," the ABC television channel quoted the minister as saying.
She also stressed that the US government "puts the interests of Americans first." It clarifies that Somali migrants who have received temporary protection from the United States will have to leave the country before March 17. This will happen if the court does not suspend the cancellation.
On the same day, Trump announced that the United States would revoke citizenship from foreigners accused of fraud. He noted that many migrants are now receiving financial support from the state. According to him, almost all Somalis are in the custody of the United States.
