Over the past day, 180 accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 18 people were killed and 214 injured. 11 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on January 14 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

As a result of 74 accidents, 33 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 41 outside their area of operation, seven pedestrians were killed, 68 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Nine underage pedestrians were among the injured, seven of them were injured while crossing the roadway in designated areas.

12 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which one person was killed, and 17 more road users, including one child, required medical attention. Seven bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles.

There were also 20 accidents involving minors, in which 20 young road users, including 11 passengers, were injured. One child passenger was killed. So, in the Tver region, on 43 km of the Konakovo—Ivankovo regional highway, a 46-year-old female passenger car driver drove into the oncoming lane in a prohibited place, where she collided with a truck. As a result of the accident, the 12-year-old daughter of the culprit of the collision, who was in the front passenger seat with a seat belt, died. The female driver and another passenger of the car were hospitalized with injuries.

In some regions of the country, temporary restrictions or traffic closures were introduced due to adverse weather conditions.

For example, in the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, a temporary suspension of traffic on the federal highway A-161 Vladikavkaz —Nizhny Lars — border with the Republic of Georgia has been in effect for two days in the direction of departure from the Russian Federation due to worsening weather conditions in the adjacent territory. In addition, traffic on the A-164 Transkam highway from the village of Buron (65 km) to the northern portal of the Roki tunnel (94 km) has been stopped in this region since yesterday night.

In the Republic of Tatarstan, due to snow, blizzard, gusty winds and limited visibility, traffic on the Alekseevskoye-Almetyevsk highway of regional significance from 0 to 145 km was temporarily stopped for more than a day and a half. In the Orenburg region, for the same reasons, traffic has been suspended since yesterday evening on the section of the M-5 Ural federal highway at the entrance to the Orsk checkpoint from 170 km to 260 km and seven regional highways.

"When planning long-distance trips, we recommend that motorists first familiarize themselves with the weather forecast and media information about possible overlap sites, outlining detours in advance. If traffic restrictions are imposed or road sections are closed due to worsening weather, the right decision would be to temporarily refrain from long trips, postponing them to a later date until favorable weather conditions occur," said Police Colonel Sergei Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

Earlier, the State Traffic Inspectorate reported that from January 1 to January 11, 2026, according to preliminary data, 2,329 car accidents occurred on the country's roads, in which 348 people were killed and 3,515 injured.
