Olympic champion Svetlana Romashina has been confirmed as the head coach of the Russian national synchronized swimming team. The decision was made by the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation, the press service of the Federation of Aquatics of Russia (FVVSR) reported on January 13.
35-year-old Romashina is the most decorated athlete in the history of synchronized swimming. The athlete won the title of world champion 21 times, and also won the European Championships 13 times.
"Tatiana Pokrovskaya, who has led the Russian synchronized swimming team since 1997, announced her resignation in November and introduced Svetlana Romashina as her successor," the federation's website says.
Pokrovskaya will continue to help the team as an advisor to the Chairman of the FVVSR.
In November last year, the head coach of the Russian national synchronized swimming team, Tatiana Pokrovskaya, left her post. Seven-time Olympic champion Svetlana Romashina was presented as a successor to the post.
