Blogger Yefremov did not appeal the verdict in the case of financing extremism.
The defense of blogger Nikita Yefremov (listed as an extremist and terrorist in the Russian Federation) has decided not to appeal the court's verdict in the case of financing extremist activities. This was reported to Izvestia on January 13 by the press service of the Khimki City Court.
In early December last year, a court sentenced Yefremov to three years in prison on probation for financing extremist activities. The court found that from August 2021 to February 2022, the blogger made seven money transfers in support of the Anti-Corruption Fund (FBK, recognized as an extremist and terrorist organization, a foreign agent and banned in the Russian Federation). To do this, the blogger has enabled the monthly automatic debit function.
It is noted that Yefremov's lawyers did not file an appeal against this decision within the established time frame. Thus, the verdict entered into legal force.
On October 12 last year, it became known that Yefremov partially admitted his guilt during an interrogation about FBK's sponsorship. The blogger stated that he first learned that FBK-related activities were prohibited in Russia during an interrogation. Also on September 9, it became known that Yefremov was added to the list of terrorists and extremists.
Yefremov was charged in the case of transferring money to an extremist organization banned in Russia on August 19. It was clarified that the blogger opposed the current authorities of the country. From September 2021 to February 2022, he transferred funds to the needs of a banned extremist organization. The court chose a preventive measure against the blogger in the form of a ban on certain actions. Later, the Investigative Committee (IC) found Yefremov guilty.
