Novokuznetsk maternity hospital was suspended due to violations in 2021
Serious violations in the work of Novokuznetsk city Clinical Hospital No. 1, where nine babies died during the New Year holidays, were recorded earlier. According to the documents available to Izvestia, in 2021, the court suspended the work of the obstetric department due to gross non-compliance with sanitary standards.
According to the decision of the Central District Court of Novokuznetsk, the activities of the obstetric department, the operating unit and the laundry were suspended for 14 days. During the inspection, it was found that there was no intensive care unit for newborns in the planned operating room, and, like in the intensive care unit, unsuitable furniture was used that was not resistant to disinfection.
The washing of work clothes was carried out in an unintended basement room, without separating the streams of clean and dirty laundry. Mold and damage were found on the walls of the main laundry room.
Obstetric hospital No. 1 of the G.P. Kurbatov City Clinical Hospital No. 1 in Novokuznetsk temporarily stopped receiving patients on January 13, 2026 due to an excess incidence of respiratory infection. Later it became known about the death of nine babies in the hospital during the New Year holidays. The UK confirmed the death of newborns. As the source of Izvestia noted, all infants were diagnosed with either intrauterine or neonatal infection, which gave critical complications.
A criminal case has been opened into the incident in accordance with Part 3 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code ("Causing death by negligence"), Part 3 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code ("Negligence"). The governor of Kuzbass, Ilya Seredyuk, temporarily dismissed the chief physician of the Novokuznetsk maternity hospital.
