Bloomberg reported on the possible threat of a crisis in Cuba due to US plans
Cuba could be at risk of a humanitarian crisis and a government collapse as US President Donald Trump threatens to leave the island without vital fuel and funding. This was reported on January 12 by Bloomberg, citing unnamed European diplomats.
"The country is on the verge of a catastrophe for which it is poorly prepared — a catastrophe that diplomats consider to be a possible reason for the fall of the Cuban government," the article says.
Sources of the publication believe that Cuba may become the next country after the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro by the Trump administration. According to them, the growing energy crisis risks becoming so serious that ports may shut down and lead to food shortages.
On January 11, Trump announced the cessation of oil and financial supplies to Cuba. According to him, Havana has received significant amounts of resources from Venezuela over the years, providing security services to the Venezuelan leadership in return.
On the same day, the American leader told reporters that after the military operation in Venezuela, the United States maintains contacts with the Cuban authorities and discusses possible agreements.
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel said on January 12 that Cuba was not negotiating with the United States, but was ready for a serious and respectful dialogue. In addition, he noted that Cuba strictly adheres to the bilateral migration agreements concluded with the United States.
