- The State Duma announced a ban on online services to impose subscriptions on Russians.
In Russia, from March 1, 2026, online services will be prohibited from automatically debiting money for digital subscriptions without user consent. This was announced on January 13 by Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications, federal coordinator of the United Russia Digital Russia project.
"Many people have come across a situation where the service continues to automatically withdraw money, even if a person has refused the service or changed the card. That is why we considered it necessary to legally protect citizens from such abuses," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
It is noted that the law will apply everywhere, including streaming platforms, applications, online courses and marketplaces.
According to Nemkin, the measures will create a trusting relationship between companies and customers.
"Companies that build relationships with clients based on trust will benefit in the long run. Transparency strengthens reputation, reduces the level of conflict situations and makes the market more mature," the politician explained.
In addition, it will allow Russian citizens to regain control over their financial component in the digital environment.
