Genetic tests for expectant parents included in the state guarantee of free medical care

Genetic tests that can detect monogenic diseases (PGT-M) and track structural chromosomal rearrangements (PGT-SP), starting in 2026, are included in the program of state guarantees of free medical care. This was announced on Tuesday, January 13, by Natalia Dolgushina, chief freelance specialist for women's reproductive health at the Russian Ministry of Health.

"Preimplantation genetic testing <...> is carried out in assisted reproductive technology programs, and it is recommended to prescribe them to patients who have a high risk of having children with hereditary diseases (carriers of gene mutations that cause monogenic diseases and carriers of chromosomal abnormalities)," she said in an interview with TASS.
