Zelensky announced his intention to discuss security guarantees with Trump.
Guarantees from the United States for Ukraine will be discussed with American President Donald Trump. This was announced on January 12 by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
"We are negotiating with President Trump's representatives on meeting schedules — our documents are largely ready for signing," he wrote on his Telegram channel.
It is noted that Zelensky also discussed documents on the restoration and economic development of Ukraine. He expressed interest in financing mechanisms for the country's reconstruction.
Last December, Politico reported that Zelensky was still reeling from a meeting with Trump in February 2025 at the White House. According to the source, Zelensky, against this background, wanted to enlist the support of his European colleagues before the meeting at the Trump estate in Mar-a-Lago on December 28.
On January 12, Trump called himself Zelensky's only advantage in the negotiations. He added that if the Ukrainian leader did not have such an advantage, the conflict in Ukraine would have turned into a "complete failure" for him.
