Real Madrid Football Club (FC) has dismissed head coach Xabi Alonso. This was announced on January 12 by the club's press service on its official website.

"Real Madrid Football Club announces that, by mutual agreement with Xabi Alonso, it has been decided to end his work as head coach of the first team," the statement said.

The reason for his resignation was the club's defeat in the match against Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final.
