Ex-Corsican nationalist leader shot dead at his mother's funeral

Alain Orsoni, founder of the Corsican nationalist movement for self-determination, former politician and former president of the French football club Ajaccio, was shot dead during his mother's funeral ceremony. This was reported on January 12 by the French newspaper Le Parisien.

"A former Corsican nationalist leader was shot dead at his mother's funeral in the village of Vero," the newspaper reported, citing the prosecutor's office.

According to the newspaper, the incident occurred on Monday, January 12, in the village of Vero in the department of South Corsica. Three bullet wounds were found on the body of 71-year-old Orsoni. The victim died on the spot about half an hour after the shooting.

It is reported that about 50 people attended the funeral, and a murder case has been opened into the murder by an organized group.

The newspaper also adds that Alain Orsoni has already survived one attempt on his life in 2008.

The New York Post reported on January 10 that six people, including a seven-year-old girl and a pastor, were killed in Mississippi, USA. The killer was named as 24-year-old Darik Moore. It is reported that the suspect killed his father, uncle and brother in Cedar Bluff, west of West Point.
