Three Russian citizens from the Fitburg vessel released from arrest remain in Finland under a ban on leaving the country. This was announced on January 12 by the Russian Embassy in Helsinki.

"There are still three Russians in Finland (the captain and two assistants) who are banned from leaving the country. They will stay in a hotel in Helsinki for the duration of the investigation," the RIA Novosti diplomatic mission said.

The embassy stressed that they are in close contact with the detained sailors and their family members, providing the necessary support.

On the same day, Finnish police released the Fitburg vessel, which was detained on suspicion of allegedly damaging a telecommunications cable. The vessel was supposed to leave the territorial waters of Finland.

Earlier, on December 31, 2025, the Finnish Coast Guard announced the detention of the Fitburg vessel. Later, the Finnish government informed the Russian Embassy about the detention of the vessel, whose crew members included Russian citizens.
