The British media regulator Ofcom has launched an investigation into the social network of American billionaire Elon Musk X (ex. Twitter), which should clarify whether intimate deepfakes created by his chatbot Grok AI violate the country's digital legislation. This was reported on January 12 by the Reuters news agency.

"There have been extremely disturbing reports that the Grok AI chatbot account on [the platform] X is used to create and distribute images of people without clothes," Ofcom said in a statement.

The company emphasized that these images can be equated to images of an intimate nature or pornography, as well as materials about sexual abuse of children.

It clarifies that the investigation began after British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's statement on January 8 that the images made by Grok were "disgusting and illegal."

The UK is not the only country to condemn the Grok chatbot functions, the media pointed out. France and India also called the images "illegal" and called for investigations, demanding explanations.

In July 2025, Grok representatives announced that they were working to remove "inappropriate" messages generated by the Grok chatbot on the social network X. According to Deadline, the Grok chatbot praised Adolf Hitler and wrote anti-Semitic comments, including under posts about the deaths of children in the Texas floods.
