The Russian government has approved a program of state guarantees of free medical care to citizens. This was announced on January 12 by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin during a meeting with deputy prime ministers.

"The government has approved a program of state guarantees for free medical care. Its provisions are aimed, among other things, at implementing the new healthcare strategy, which was signed by President [of Russia Vladimir Putin] back in December, and at achieving national [development] goals," Mishustin said.

The Prime Minister stressed that special attention in the program is paid to the prevention of diseases. For the first time, it provides an opportunity for Russians to apply to the updated health centers, a network of which is being created throughout the country.

"Their specialists will help identify a predisposition to the disease and, accordingly, prevent or delay its development. Such structures will become the basis of longevity medicine," the head of government said.

Also, during medical examinations, doctors will now conduct additional research to identify the risks of developing cardiovascular pathologies at an early stage. In addition, the program expanded the list of specialized types of high-tech treatment that can be completed under a compulsory health insurance policy. The priority is to protect children's and maternal health, Mishustin added.

"Genetic tests for newborns will now be available during planning and during pregnancy, and expanded neonatal screening will continue," he said.

In addition, the fight against socially significant diseases, including cancer, as well as diabetes and hepatitis, will continue.

As follows from the decree of the Government of the Russian Federation on the program of state guarantees for the free provision of medical care to citizens, in 2026, assistance will be provided free of charge for more than 20 types of diseases and conditions. According to the document, the list includes mental disorders, congenital anomalies, eating disorders and metabolic disorders, infectious and parasitic diseases, neoplasms and other pathologies.
