Over the past week, six people were killed in road accidents on the roads of the Irkutsk region, and 45 more were injured. This is reported by the regional State Traffic Inspectorate.
In total, from January 5 to January 11, 2026, 30 road accidents were registered in the region, in which people were injured. Six people died, 45 more received various injuries, of which 12 minors were hospitalized.
According to IrkutskMedia news agency, 50 vehicles were damaged in accidents. The main causes of the accident were speeding and driving into oncoming traffic, and in two cases, a violation of the passage of a pedestrian crossing. In two cases, drivers left the scene, and two accidents involving drunk motorists were also reported.
The news agency, citing the Irkutsk traffic police, also writes that on January 10, a 33-year-old drunk man driving a Mitsubishi Lancer caused a massive accident on Baikalskaya Street. No one was injured in the accident, but seven cars were damaged.
