- Zelensky introduced laws to the parliament on the extension of martial law and mobilization
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has submitted to the Verkhovna Rada an initiative to extend martial law and mobilization in the country. The relevant documents were registered on the website of the Ukrainian Parliament on January 12.
The general mobilization in Ukraine and martial law, according to the documents, should be extended for 90 days from February 3, 2026.
The extension could be the 18th in a row starting in February 2022. The previous time Zelensky extended martial law in Ukraine on October 30, 2025, the relevant law expires on February 3, 2026.
A day earlier, the Ukrainian head of the education Committee, Serhiy Babak, said that the Verkhovna Rada wanted to cancel the deferral from mobilization for men over the age of 25 entering universities and vocational education institutions. Babak noted that until 2022, about 30 thousand men over the age of 25 studied in the higher and professional education system on average.
