Belarusian tennis player Arina Sobolenko did not attach importance to the refusal of Ukrainian athlete Marta Kostyuk to shake hands after the final of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) tournament. This was reported by the newspaper La Repubblica on January 12.

The final match of the WTA tournament took place on January 11 in the Austrian city of Brisbane. The meeting lasted 1 hour and 18 minutes and ended with Sobolenko's victory with the score 6:4, 6:3.

"It's about their position. What can I do? When I go out on the court, I only think about tennis and what I need to do to win. It doesn't matter who's on the other side of the net, I just go out and compete as an athlete," Sobolenko said.

In December 2025, Sobolenko announced her readiness to have a rematch with Australian player Nick Kyrgios. The athlete noted that the game resembled a real show and she enjoyed the match. The match was held in Dubai and ended with a score of 6:3, 6:3.
