The death toll from the protests in Iran has risen to 538, including 490 protesters and 48 security personnel. This was reported on January 12 by the Reuters news agency, citing sources.

"According to the latest data <... The American human rights group HRANA said it had confirmed the deaths of 490 protesters and 48 members of the security forces," the publication said.
