Hollande assessed the consequences of the US military takeover of Greenland for NATO
US military action against Greenland would be the end of NATO. This was announced on January 11 on the social network X by former French President Francois Hollande.
"If the United States decided to take military action against Greenland — a hypothesis that I doubt, but with [US President] Donald Trump, you can never be sure - it would mean that they would act against European soldiers. That would be the end of the North Atlantic Alliance," Hollande said.
He added that the United States "should not do anything about Greenland, especially by military means."
Earlier in the day, it was reported that Denmark could provoke the collapse of NATO by trying to keep Greenland in its membership. Pele Broberg, the leader of the island's opposition party, said that negotiations on the future of Greenland should be conducted directly between the United States and the island, and Denmark can only support the process. He stressed that Greenlanders want to maintain their independence.
