In Moscow, about 145 thousand people and over 15 thousand units of special equipment are involved in the elimination of the consequences of the snowfall. This was announced on January 11 by Pyotr Biryukov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow in the government of the capital for housing and Communal Services and landscaping.

"At the moment, about 145 thousand people are involved, these are employees of public utilities, metropolitan engineering, resource supply, construction companies, and other enterprises and organizations. More than 15 thousand pieces of equipment are working on the streets," Biryukov said.

He noted that work is being carried out around the clock, snow cover has increased by 2 cm over the past day, and almost 46 cm of precipitation has fallen in some areas of Moscow. Biryukov added that at the moment the streets and roads have been cleared of snow, and its removal continues.

"Work is underway to clear snow and ice from the pitched roofs of apartment buildings, protruding elements of building facades, drainage gutters and funnels of drains. The necessary number of roofers and car lifts are involved in these events," the deputy mayor added.

In addition, he urged citizens to understand the inconveniences and not to interfere with the employees of public utilities.

On the same day, Dmitry Bunakov, the head of the Golovinsky district council, said that large-scale snow removal was currently underway, which was brought there in record volumes by Cyclone Francis. He specified that the so-called snow piles are formed from all precipitation, which will later be exported from the city.

Evgeny Tishkovets, a leading specialist at the Phobos Weather Center, said on January 10 that the snowfall recorded in the capital broke a half-century record, becoming the most intense in the last 56 years. He specified that during the day, 22 mm of precipitation fell into the precipitation meter at the VDNKh weather station, which was 42% of the monthly norm.
